How Many Panels Do You Need?
Bifolds run from two to eight panels. More panels means a wider opening — and a higher price, because each panel adds glass, framing and hardware:
- 2–3 panels — ideal for a standard patio opening up to around 2.7m wide.
- 4–5 panels — a generous opening for larger rooms, up to around 4.5m.
- 6–8 panels — opens an entire wall to the garden for an extension or orangery.
Each panel has a maximum width for smooth folding, so very wide openings simply use more panels. The calculator keeps every panel within spec automatically.
