What Do Timber Bifold Doors Actually Cost?
Timber bifold doors are a premium product. They cost more than aluminium or uPVC alternatives — and for good reason. Engineered hardwood is stronger, warmer, and ages better than any metal or plastic frame. But you deserve to know what you are paying for before you commit.
Our timber bifold doors start at £1,050 per square metre for a standard specification. That includes engineered hardwood, double glazing, single colour factory-applied paint, and PAS24 multi-point locking. No hidden extras in the base price.

What Affects the Price?
- Size — the single biggest factor. More panels, more glass, higher price. Each panel has a maximum width of 950mm.
- Glazing — triple glazing adds approximately 15–20% over double. Passive glass (U-value 0.6) adds more. Toughened or laminated glass for safety adds a smaller surcharge.
- Colour — single colour is included. Dual colour (different inside and outside) adds approximately 15% to the base price.
- Timber — standard engineered hardwood is included. Accoya (50-year timber warranty) adds approximately 15–20%.
- Bars — Georgian glazing bars add £15–20 per bar. Most bifold customers choose plain glass.
- Threshold — low-threshold options for level access (wheelchair/pushchair friendly) may affect the price slightly.

| Material | Price range (per m²) | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|
| uPVC bifold | £400–£600 | 15–20 years |
| Aluminium bifold | £600–£900 | 25–30 years |
| Timber bifold (ours) | From £1,050 | 30–60+ years |
Timber costs more upfront but lasts significantly longer. A well-maintained timber bifold can last 60+ years — outliving two generations of aluminium doors and three generations of uPVC. Over a 30-year period, timber is often the cheaper option when you factor in replacement costs.

How to Get the Best Value
- Order with your windows — if you are replacing sash windows or casement windows at the same time, we manufacture everything together. One delivery, one installation, lower total cost.
- Standard sizes — bifold doors that fit standard openings (multiples of 900mm panel width) are more cost-effective than unusual widths.
- Double glazing — unless you need passive house performance, double glazing meets Building Regulations and saves 15–20% versus triple.
