For a typical London terraced house with 6–8 windows, the total timeline from first enquiry to completed installation is approximately 7–9 weeks: 1–2 weeks for survey and quoting, 4–5 weeks for production, and 3–4 days for installation.

What Can Cause Delays?

Planning Permission

Most window replacements do not need planning permission. However, if your property is in a Conservation Area or is a Listed Building, you may need consent before work begins. Conservation Area applications typically take 6–8 weeks; Listed Building consent can take 8–12 weeks. We can advise whether permission is needed during the survey stage.

Structural Issues

If the survey reveals structural problems β€” crumbling lintels, rotten sub-sills, damaged brickwork β€” these need to be addressed before or during installation. We flag these during the survey so there are no surprises on installation day.

Access and Scaffolding

Ground-floor and first-floor windows can usually be installed from ladders. Higher floors or difficult access may require scaffolding, which needs to be arranged in advance. We coordinate scaffolding as part of our installation service.

Bespoke Designs

Standard configurations (rectangular sash and casement windows) are delivered in 4–5 weeks. Arched windows, shaped frames, and other bespoke designs may require additional production time, which we confirm at the point of order.

How to Speed Things Up

How Many Windows Can Be Installed Per Day?

A two-person installation team typically fits 1–2 full box frame sash windows per day, including removal of old frames, preparation of the opening, installation, sealing, and finishing. Casement windows are faster β€” 2–3 per day is typical. A terraced house with 6–8 windows takes approximately 3–5 days. Larger properties or those requiring structural work may take longer.
